Becoming Book Review

Happy Black History Month!!! Though this post may or may not be posted by the end of the first week, this month I will review books that are/were written by African Americans. If I’m late and this post is published during the second full week of February, I will extend this to the first full week of March (Heads up, March is Women’s History Month in terms of what kind of book reviews I plan on doing)

But back to business, if you haven’t read this book, where have you been? Originally released on November 13, 2018, Former First Lady Michelle Obama wrote a memoir of her life that is split into three parts: Becoming Me, Becoming Us and Becoming More. Becoming Me encompasses her childhood to when she met Former President Barack Obama, Becoming Us started with the budding romance with Barack Obama to the election in 2008 when Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States, and Becoming More wrapped up the novel with Michelle’s life in the White House until it was time to leave it all behind in the 2016 elections.

Though the novel is between 400-448 (There are pictures of Michelle Obama and her family) pages, which sounds very intimidating because it’s a very long book, I promise you it’s worth it. This memorizing reflection type of storytelling demonstrates how an African American woman from the South Side of Chicago can grow to become a strong, soulful woman who is also seen as a role model to others.

This novel was so popular when it first came out, it sold out in many retailers. Retailers like Barnes & Noble had to email customers that once they get a new shipment, they will alert them. I was lucky enough to obtain a physical copy of the novel; this novel is an example of intriguing storytelling from the life of our former First Lady from childhood to post-presidency. As I wrote earlier, if you haven’t read the novel already, give it a read. You won’t regret it!

This is not an autobiography, this is a memoir. Once you read it, you will understand the difference between the two
