Book of Poems Review

To keep it a surprise, I won’t include the title of the book I’ll be reviewing in the title for the blog. This week, I’ll be reviewing…….Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur!!!!

This New York Times Bestseller is personally one of my favorite book of poetry that I came across during the beginning of my college career. Though these poems has been read by both men and women, in my opinion, women will have a better connection with the stories “poems” that Rupi is conveying. Another plug, if you already read the book, have you also read The Sun and Her Flowers?

Milk and Honey is divided into four chapters: the hurting, the loving, the breaking and the healing; which I will tell you now is a very emotional ride through the stages of breakup in a relationship. Being a young adult and having experience in relationships, some of the poems touched me in a relatable way.

I bought the book after checking it out at the library since I fell in love with the book. I have my own copy marked with the poems I like the most and underlined with my favorite lines. Though there not titled, you will know once the poem is over by the length.

Here’s an excerpt to one of my favorites:

love will come
and when love comes
love will hold you
love will call your name
and you will melt
sometimes though
love will hurt you but
love will never mean to
love will play no games
cause love knows life
has been hard enough already
(The Loving pg 60)

Until next week, happy reading!

  1. I used to read this book all the time! I love poem books, I actually have a small collection of them. I love how anyone can relate to a poem since everyone reads and thinks about it so differently! One poem can mean so many different things to one another. I like the format of this book too, it makes it fun to read the lines and figure out why they are placed certain ways. This is one of the first more adult poetry books I read, and it always sticks with me! Great read for the week!
